A Week of Black Queens & the Pope

The week was pretty low key for both of us. Shells’ youngest is really coming into her personality — and she’s going to be a handful. Meanwhile, Irene is happy that she gave into Tidal and Apple Music and it’s taking over her life…in a good way, of course. Not to mention…what a time it is to be alive, thanks to Drake & Future…and all of the amazing fall television that premiered this week.

Ellen helped kick off the week of Black Queens with an amazing line up of guests this week, including Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae, and Viola Davis. Not only was it a treat to watch the great conversation that our bestie (in our heads), Ellen had with all these amazing women, we LOVE to see Ellen and her wife, Portia DeRossi, together and this week the two shared the talkshow stage…and it was super cute and endearingly funny!

This week we ask, would you rather never touch another human again or never touch a computer powered device again…. ever. This one turned out to be a littler harder than we expected… and we want to hear from you… We’re on Twitter and Facebook @FSGPodcast #FSGWYR

Then we get into this week’s water cooler news, which just so happened to be chock-full on Black Queens…and The Pope. Viola Davis’ Emmy win and her acceptance speech was triumphant, honest, and inclusive. Taraji demonstrated what supporting your sisters looks likes…literally. Then Apple premiered a commercial adorned with Black Queens. It’s one of the best commercials we’ve ever seen because it speaks loudly to fun, friendship and the experience of music. And speaking of musical experiences … Beyonce slayed, yet again, at the Global Citizen Festival in NYC and then had the esteemed honor of introducing The First Lady, Michelle Obama, who spoke about the new a campaign #62MillionGirls. And if a week of Black Queens wasn’t enough, there was also the fact that the division of church and state was at an all time low, with the pervasive presence of His Holiness – The Pope.

A young Canadian songbird is in Irene’s beat’s this week and a Rhonda Rousey quote (that caught Beyonce’s attention) inspired Shells’ Eye Spy.

Remember to listen. laugh. share! We love ya’ll! Until next week, good people!

The Sum of Er’thang

We’re back at it with our usual antics and this episode, we really just talk about er’thang. Shells shares a Zumba story and her growing interest in Novel-Tees, while Irene’s commitment to her shoe game continues to thrive.

Ellen hit the new season running with giveaways and helping out families and people in need of new cars and cash. But, one of our favorite moments with Ellen this week was the performance by *singing* Si-Len-To and a father/daughter duo hittin’ the Whip-Nae Nae. As Ellen said, you can’t judge a book by it’s cover…which then led to a discussion about the benefits and risks of “black things in the main stream”.

#FSGWYR: This week the question is, would you rather be stuck on an elevator for 5 hours or be stuck on ski lift for 5 hours. Even though we agree, it doesn’t sound like it … at all.

We spend some time around the FSG Water Cooler chatting about Ahmed Mohammed, the Republican Debate,  the Trump by-product, a mother of the church getting kicked out, fall TV premiere week, and a few things to celebrate.

The truth is that we are not over our St. Maarten trip yet (yes, we talk about it again a little this week) …and The Lifestyle Architect, Omar Hamilton is to blame! Omar is the mastermind behind OHPsalms, LLC and made sure our trip was unforgettable by curating an exclusive and customize itinerary for our group of 40 ladies. Omar is definitely walking in his purpose and his work reflects his great respect for people, relationships, and experiences. Frankly, we don’t want to travel without Omar ever again! So if you’re looking to take a trip curated to your needs, holla at Omar! You can find OHPsalms on Facebook, and @OHPsalms on Twitter & Instagram.

As we wrap up the show, a relatively new and unconventional artist has impressed Irene enough to earn a moment in her Beats. And this week, Shells’ eye spy inspiration is about embracing the fall season to recalibrate and prioritize your life so that you’re balanced and at your best.

We’ll see you next week & remember to Listen. Laugh. Share!

Sallie, What’s Good?!

Hey Ya’ll!

Since we’ve been gone, Irene had an amazing experience at the Made In America Festival, compliments of 360 Magazine. And Shells is navigating the tricky waters of childhood birthday party etiquette.

ELLEN IS BACK!!! Not only is the daytime talk show back for her 13th season, Ellen also is making her rounds on the Today Show, Jimmy Fallon, Howard Stern (and some others) to promote the new season and the launch of her clothing line ED.  With a new season comes the new opportunity to make this #IreneEllenDanceBattle happen!!! Stay tuned to find out how you can help FSG make it to The Ellen DeGeneres Show by year end!

How important is it for you to be heard? That’s what we consider in this week’s Would You Rather Question. As always we’d love to hear what you think, would you rather only whisper or only shout, that is the question! Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter @fsgpodcast #FSGWYR

Around the water cooler this week, there’s the Apple Keynote address (and Irene’s excitement), the Freddie Gray settlement, the never ending drama that is The Patriots, Kim Davis’ lunacy, and a few random National Day of ____ to celebrate.

And then we Talk About It: Our deep seated, soul stirring, fully engulfing hatred of that wench named Sallie Mae. Our disdain is legitimate and shared by many college-educated, hard-working professionals, but it also highlights a problem with the cost of education and the loan sharks cloaked as financial “assistance”.

Once we get that off of our chest, we wrap it up with house music in Irene’s Beats and an awesome book that’s inspiring Shells!

TRUE Story – SXM

Hey Good People! The vacation is over and we’re back at it.

This episode is very, let’s say…organic. Truth is, we are still basking in the glow of after-vacation. Not to mention that this trip was one that we’ll never forget for so many reasons…so we’ll tell you all about it. This is the TRUE Story – SXM edition.

This week, our PLUG OF THE WEEK is our favorite photographer and good friend, Elton Anderson. He captured our island celebration with perfection!!! Check him out on Instagram: @L10_LAX, on Tumbler: @L10, and on his website: eltonanderson.com. He’s dope, ya’ll…both behind the camera and in real life. We love you L10!!!

We also recorded in the Week of the Queen’s Birthday… so we bet you can guess what’s in Irene’s Beats. And following such a perfect vacation with some of the most amazing women we know, Shells is all in her feelings with this week’s Eye Spy inspiration.

That’s it for now. We’re glad to be back and we’ll see you next week!
