Obama, Kanye, & Everything Else

Hey Good People! We hope that you all had a beautiful Thanksgiving with loved ones!

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming… 🙂

Since we saw you all last time, Shells has had some highs and lows this week. Meanwhile, Irene actually had a chill week.

Since we were getting ready for Thanksgiving during this recording…we hopped right into our water cooler chatter! We’re talking about

  • Martha & Snoop Potluck Dinner Party on VH1. It is just as awkward as you’d expect…but oddly entertaining and informative.
  • President Obama awarded his last Presidential Medals of Freedom. There were 21 recipients this year, including Michael Jordan, Cicely Tyson, Bill & Melinda Gates, and our girl Ellen DeGeneres.
  • And speaking of President Obama, the BET Presents honoring the Obamas was the blackest night in the White House and it was wonderful to see this historic, beautiful, and powerful couple celebrated and seranaded.
  • Post-election SNL with Dave Chapelle and A Tribe Called Quest was EVERYTHING!! It’s good to see Dave back on stage and clearly, his hiatus hasn’t hurt his gift. And the Tribe will always be one of Hiphop’s jewels.
  • We have to say a word about the ridiculousness that is the “boycotting” of Hamilton because of the very real and calculated statement made to VP-Elect Mike Pence during a recent show.
  • And then, there is everything that Kanye has done over the last 2 weeks. Honestly, this is a softer, kinder response to Kanye than anticipated…but we recognize that mental health is a very serious and very real challenge… especially in the black community. With that said, we send our best wishes to Kanye and his family as he gets treated.

Finally, this week’s eye spy inspiration is about tying up all the loose ends of 2016 before we get caught up in the new year resolutions for 2017. Set yourself up for next year’s success by spending the rest of this year getting complete.

That’s all for now, we’ll be back next week with more!

Land of the Free?

Welcome Back, Good People.

Here we are… the day after election night 2016 and one Trump won’t stop our show. (We hope… 😳)

Welcome Back, Good People.

Here we are… the day after election night 2016 and one Trump won’t stop our show. (We hope… 😳)

Irene ran into her homeboy, Jidenna this weekend and it was #LiveAlotFSG for her as usual. Shells had a pretty low key weekend… but she has a Cole story!

Then, we take a couple of moments to share our feelings about the election results. From there, we talk about the mixed reactions to Jay-Z and Beyoncé performing at a Hillary rally, Irene talks about an amazing show highlighting California School for the Deaf and their amazing football team, and her super-sized rant about Kids Meals, and then we chat about #Survivor and the #MannequinChallenge.

Shells threw in a couple of #FSGWYR options… so you rather drums or flats or Chick Fil A lemonade or Sweet Tea? Yes, we care.

Then we wrap this thing up… After this past Tuesday, it’s only fitting that a track from Solange is back in Irene’s Beats and a Demi Nova lyric is Shells’ Eye Spy Inspiration. Music is healing… let it help get you through whatever phase of acceptance you’re in!

We love y’all! Keep believing in the good & we’ll be back next week!

The Diamond Episode

What up folks! It’s the 75th episode of FSG… the 💎 episode!

Since last week, Shells has been playing Minnie Mouse for the kids. Shout out to the Cubs who clinched the World Series after we recorded! Who says baseball is boring?!? Meanwhile, Irene has been kicking it with line sisters, enjoying the Halloween pics, especially from The Black Barbie and Black Ken (aka Beyoncé and Jay-Z).

Some weeks we have a Would You Rather question… but sometimes the pickings are slim. So, we skip on over that segment this week. However, Irene has made a special request for the return of Shells’ “Day of” segment… because apparently, that’s actually was a cool idea.

Also, we’re super excited to have a Plug of the Week! FLYE, cofounded by Cortni Grange is on a mission to intentionally expose high school aged youth to diverse avenues of success and assist young people involved in athletics in continued development of their most transitional soft skills. On Sunday, November 20th, 2016 FLYE is holding their 4th annual anniversary celebration at Impact Hub DC (419 7th St NW 3rd Floor)

This years event will help FLYE build support for the Knowledge Capital Coalition (KCC). Knowledge Capital offers what all youth in The District should have and some already do – a clear path to college, employment or entrepreneurship. For more information about FLYE and how to get involved and attend the event, visit  www.flye.org/2016. Also check them out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube at @FLYEOrg.

Now to the water cooler… we talk about the the horrible events taking place at Sacred Stone Camp in South Dakota, the reopened FBI investigation (we guess) of Hillary’s emails, D.R.A.M’s new album is dope, Irene is loving NBC’s new drama, “This is Us“, and we’re both loving Issa Rae’s new show, “Insecure” on HBO.

Then we wrap up with 24K Magic in Irene’s Beats and Shells’ eye spy inspiration is all about letting go of dead stuff … like leaves on an autumn tree.

That’s all for now. Come on back next week…
