Boycott Whet?!

Hey, hey ya’ll!

Over the last week, Shells has been ever so random and Irene is conquering the social media game… You know, the usual antics. And special hugs and loves to our line sister, Alena, and our neophyte, Ashley. These lovely ladies got married to their loves last weekend in Atlanta. Two beautiful couples, two memorable weddings in one amazing night. Congrats to The Conleys and The Proctors!

Around the water cooler, there is Sarah Palin’s “big” endorsement, Hillary’s shaky presidential pursuit, Irene’s forgiveness of Kanye, 2Chainz philanthropic work, and the despicable Flint Water Crisis.

This week’s Would You Rather is the set up for our bigger conversation… would you rather be Dark Skinned Aunt Viv or Stacey Dash? #FSGWYR

…and then there is the bigger conversation. This week, the backlash against the absence of any Oscar nominations of Black actors bubbled and boiled over. Jada Pinkett Smith called for a boycott of upcoming award show, Janet Hubert (aka: Dark Skinned Aunt Viv) responded with an animated rebuttal to Mrs. Smith, and then Stacey Dash weighed in on the challenges of diversity & segregation. We have a lot to say about all of it… ALL OF IT.

Then we wrap this show up with a lil’ Ye in Irene’s Beats and an empowering quote from not other than…Will Smith (why not?!).

Hope you enjoyed… keep riding with us and be sure to invite all your friends. Listen – Laugh – Share…and rate us on iTunes!!!

A Different Cosby

…and, we’re back.

It appears that winter has finally arrived in the Midwest for Shells, so….brrrr. And Irene has adopted a new lifestyle that is making her life even more amazing.

At the FSG water cooler, we talk about Taraji P. Henson’s Golden Globe win and speech, President Obama’s last State of the Union address (including First Lady Michelle’s slayage & the failure of Paul Ryan’s face), and the insane Powerball  jackpot.

And speaking of jackpot, this week’s Would You Rather has us considering how much winning is really worth to us. Let us know your take on it #FSGWYR, @FSGPodcast on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram  .

Since Bill Cosby was arraigned at the end of 2015 on aggravated indecent assault charges, the discussion about the motivation fueling the truth and accountability of the allegations has picked up steam again. We chat about some of the facts of the case, the conspiracy theories, the historical outcomes of similar cases and the “rape culture”, in general.

We wrap up this week’s show with an amazing Adele/Bruno Mars project and an Eye Spy Inspiration by way of an Cherokee fable.

And we can’t get out of here without acknowledging the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. We hope that whether you are engaging in a day of service or simply reflecting upon what Dr. King stood for, may you be inspired to be better as Dr. King hoped for all of us.

We’ll be back next week … until then, Listen – Laugh – Share!

Internet Clapback

Welcome to a new year with FSG! We hope that your holiday was awesome and you’re back into the swing of “real life”. We enjoyed our time away but we’re HYPE to be back at it!

This week in  “Water Cooler” banter…

  • On television,  the 17th season of The Biggest Loser premiered. We like the show and the new changes to the format, but the highlight is that Shells apparently has a “real life crush”. Wow.  Lip Sync Battle also premiered with Channing Tatum and his wife Jenna Dewan Tatum, and they pulled out ALL the stops! The BeyHive spazzed!!
  • In Fashion, Jaden Smith is the face of the new Louis Vuitton womenswear line. Ok.
  • In politics, President Obama took Executive Action in an effort to reduce gun violence. His announcement was emotional and pointed. Read the full official press release here!
  • In sports (kinda), it’s been announced that Beyonce will be a part of the Super Bowl 50 half-time show! She won’t be performing alone- Cold Play and Bruno will be there- but when Bey’s in the building…no one else matters, right?

In the hypothetical world of “Would You Rather” we consider if we’d rather feel a sharp pain each time someone says our name or have a bell sound each time we are are aroused? LOL! Of course we want to hear your take… We’re listening: #FSGWYR @FSGPodcast on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Have you ever been a witness and/or participant in an argument on social media? We talk about the motivations and the harm done by those who engage in virtual combat, even when the intention may be good. Check out our perspectives and then let us know what you think!

Finally, we wrap up the show with the first What’s In My Beat’s of the year. Irene gets us started with a little “Church” by a few of Chi-town’s finest.  And for Eye Spy Inspiration, Shells reminds us that a year is a long time to work on becoming better versions of ourselves, so be patient and just keep practicing.

That’s it for our first show of 2016! Thanks to all of our listeners who participated in our feedback survey, we hope you can already hear some growth!

Remember to RATE us on iTunes and, of course, Listen. Laugh. Share!

Catch y’all next week!
