FAMU HC15 Recap

Well, we survived FAMU’s 2015 Homecoming and we’re back to tell you all about it …. and other things, of course!

In the world of Ellen, we are excited about Oprah on Ellen and then Ellen on OWN: Ellen’s Master Class. We’re really looking forward to hearing her share some of the teachable moments that shaped her! We also discuss a blog post that is clearly a misuse of our girl’s name for clicks…and Irene is mad.

In a knod to Shells’ son, this week’s Would You Rather question is about which superhero, Batman or SpiderMan, you’d rather be? #FSGWYR @fsgpodcast

This week, we are renaming “Water Cooler News” to “A Week in the Pop Culture Mind of Irene”. There’s Out in Hip Hop, the TIDAL concert, Meek Mill, Hotline Bling, Back 2 the Future, and Undisclosed. And in true Shelley randomness, there’s a little addition about cheese addiction.

Then we get into the recap of FAMU’s Homecoming. There was so much goodness over the weekend and it was amazing for both of us to return to The Hill. One of the best moments was Convocation, which included the inspiring  speech by Angela Robinson (aka: Veronica Harrington from Tyler Perry’s Haves & The Have Nots), and the band that always gets you back into that FAMU spirit- The 100!

What’s in Irene’s Beats this week is a direct extension of the FAMU experience, and an Angela Robinson quote is our Eye Spy Inspiration this week. It was an exciting week… and we sound like it! lol.

Hope you enjoy the show…and remember to Listen – Laugh – and Share!

We’ll be back next week.

Ask Me Something

HEY, Good People! This is the last week you hear us talk about getting ready for FAMU homecoming and you can sum up our final preparation efforts as “Superwoman Wednesday“. And the anticipation is bringing up some deep emotions…for Irene. Meanwhile, Shells has a really full kid-free social agenda for the first time in a while…and it’s exciting and terrifying all at the same time!

We’ve been pretty busy so we’re not caught up with Ellen, but there’s always a good “You’re Welcome Wednesdays” to share, which led to an enlightening convo about teeth whitening.  And then we talk about how cool Twitch is, which led to Irene coming for his job.

This week, we’re keeping it light… so we talk about the food… warm food or cold food, that is. What would you rather? @FSGPodcast #FSGWYR

Water Cooler News includes the increasing pushback on Columbus Day and the role social media played on it, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are expecting and National Pregnancy & Infant Loss Day, the sad Lamar Odom story, and our recap on the Democratic Debate.

And in the spirit of keeping it light, we decided to play an very abbreviated version of “20 Questions”. We’re still learning things about each other and ya’ll are welcome to let us know how’d you answer these questions too!

Our theme song for the upcoming weekend is in Irene’s Beats this week and the Eye Spy Inspiration is simply divine.

That’s all for now! We can’t wait to see you next week for a full FAMU HC15 recap…see you then!

Listen. Laugh. Share.

Guilty Pleasures

With FAMU’s homecoming just a week away, Irene is (almost) done with planning our campus reunion, celebration, and the expectation of a large group of women. Shells is reflective about the illusive “alone time” in motherhood and Shells household is rooting for the Cubs … hard. Then, that story about the baseball game sorority girls…the one we almost cut from the show last week… caught the attention of  alot of our favorite people. But, you heard it here first!

And speaking of favorite people, Ellen had an adorable 8 year old fitness trainer on the show, who also challenged Usain Bolt to a foot race. It was an awesome interview with both. But what’s got us really excited is Ellen’s open call to join her squad! We’re working on a video to submit to EllenTube now! #EllenSquad here we come!!

This week, we get in a lively debate about being either a winner or a spectator. We love to hear your answers to our would you rather questions. We’re waiting to hear from you Twitter or Facebook (@FSGPodcast) and use the hashtag #FSGWYR!

Here’s something to chop it up about around the water-cooler this week: Spencer Stone gets stabbed again (he’s the dude that helped thwart the shooting on the train in France over the summer), there’s some shady business with some of the increasingly popular fantasy football sites, ABC Family is changing it’s name and we don’t understand, an Ohio stoner called the police on himself and his munchies, and there’s a few things to celebrate next week.

Then we get into a little sharing about some of guilty pleasures. You know, those things that you really enjoy…but you don’t really want anyone to know about? Since we LOVE y’all soon much, why not share (just a few) of ours with the good people? LOL!!!  Nothing too crazy, but this topic definitely led to some classic FSG giggles! What are some of your guilty pleasures?

And in the spirit of guilty pleasures, Irene’s got another one in her Beats this week. And Shells sends you off with some inspiration about following through on fleeting thoughts and trusting your gut.

That’s all for this week…but we’ll be back, as always. Until then, listen, laugh, share!

Cuffin’ Season’s Upon Us

What up, fam! It’s been a rainy few days for Irene, who’s prepping for a  weekend in NYC & FAMU’s homecoming. And Shells’ son is her biggest teacher this week – the young man is paying attention to details and asking some hard questions.
In the wonderful world of Ellen, this week’s guests included Tracee Ellis Ross, and Kim Kardashian West & young North. Then, there’s the new segment “When Life Gives You Lemons” that we over-love! Ellen’s fashion line is available … at Bergdorf Goodman<— hyperlinked for your (and Irene’s) convenience, lol.
This week’s Would You Rather weighs happiness and knowledge. Let us know what you’d rather on Facebook and Twitter. @FSGPodcast #FSGWYR
Around the water-cooler, we’ve narrowly escaped another government shutdown; there’s the NCAA hustle; Trump is worse than Putin (Go figure.), President Obama addresses gun control…again, and apparently, there’s no place for selfies in baseball. So, there’s that.
As the days get shorter and the weather gets cooler, the cuffs come out! This week, we talk about Cuffin’ Season, which makes for an interesting conversation since Irene’s single and ouchea…and Shells is married and not.
Irene’s Beats are playing what could serve as this “season’s” anthem of sorts. (We should also mention that someone is falling under the Tidal spell…IJS). And Shells is still learning from Taraji’s example of support and encouragement, and sharing the insight in this weeks Eye Spy.
That’s a wrap…for now! Until next week, Listen. Laugh. Share!
