A Week of Black Queens & the Pope
The week was pretty low key for both of us. Shells’ youngest is really coming into her personality — and she’s going to be a handful. Meanwhile, Irene is happy that she gave into Tidal and Apple Music and it’s taking over her life…in a good way, of course. Not to mention…what a time it is to be alive, thanks to Drake & Future…and all of the amazing fall television that premiered this week.
Ellen helped kick off the week of Black Queens with an amazing line up of guests this week, including Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae, and Viola Davis. Not only was it a treat to watch the great conversation that our bestie (in our heads), Ellen had with all these amazing women, we LOVE to see Ellen and her wife, Portia DeRossi, together and this week the two shared the talkshow stage…and it was super cute and endearingly funny!
This week we ask, would you rather never touch another human again or never touch a computer powered device again…. ever. This one turned out to be a littler harder than we expected… and we want to hear from you… We’re on Twitter and Facebook @FSGPodcast #FSGWYR
Then we get into this week’s water cooler news, which just so happened to be chock-full on Black Queens…and The Pope. Viola Davis’ Emmy win and her acceptance speech was triumphant, honest, and inclusive. Taraji demonstrated what supporting your sisters looks likes…literally. Then Apple premiered a commercial adorned with Black Queens. It’s one of the best commercials we’ve ever seen because it speaks loudly to fun, friendship and the experience of music. And speaking of musical experiences … Beyonce slayed, yet again, at the Global Citizen Festival in NYC and then had the esteemed honor of introducing The First Lady, Michelle Obama, who spoke about the new a campaign #62MillionGirls. And if a week of Black Queens wasn’t enough, there was also the fact that the division of church and state was at an all time low, with the pervasive presence of His Holiness – The Pope.
A young Canadian songbird is in Irene’s beat’s this week and a Rhonda Rousey quote (that caught Beyonce’s attention) inspired Shells’ Eye Spy.
Remember to listen. laugh. share! We love ya’ll! Until next week, good people!
